happiness over money

I had an interview today and I feel it went well. I am hoping for the best! Anyhow, here is my question. Would you take a new job if it was less money? I'll give you the specifics. I hate my job now, I'm working with adults and I have always been better with children and families. The new job is in a pre school working with special needs children, which is my specialty. It is only 1k less than what I am making now but the benefits are about the same. Only difference is the vacation time is based on school holidays, so it's less flexible, but after a year I would start earning more holiday time starting with 5 days working my way up to 20. So it's got some growth available! Okay so now that I have written this I realize if I get this new job it's kinda a no brainer!!! haha!! Just needed to work it out!!!

I would go for it. It sounds like a great opportunity! $1K seems negligible in the grand scheme of things. Good luck!

hands down yes - I did it...and I am much better off and wound up getting a promotion within the 6 months of being at my new place...

Things have a funny way of working sometimes...Money comes and goes...being unhappy in a job makes life alot more diffcult then it needs to be.

Definitely! 1K is not a big difference at all.

Absolutely!

Especially if you are miserable where you are.

You will barely notice a difference in your paycheck, I'm sure.

Re: happiness over money

I would choose happiness over money -- in fact, I did! I left a financially lucrative position as an attorney at a top Manhattan firm to go into real estate sales/consulting, which essentially meant starting my own business from scratch. I've had to make some tradeoffs and financial sacrifices, but it's been worth it to have more time, less stress, and just an overall better quality of life. I don't think you can put a price on that.

As long as you will have enough money to meet your needs (even if it is a bit less than you would want), I think you can never go wrong with choosing happiness. Money is great, but if you are always stressed and miserable, it is hard to enjoy it!

And sometimes you have to take a step back, salary/benefit wise in the short term, in order to achieve greater financial success in the long-term.
