Suffer the pain of discipline,

Running on beach, in the sand

So this past week, i have been running on the beach. Sometimes on the dry sand which was harder, but mainly on somewhat wet sand. I've been running half of my daily run on the sand, just about 2.5miles.
Out of the 5 straight miles i run. I have to say that I was impressed with my pace overall and did not experience much soreness but my God, my hunger increased by 10fold. I'm ravenous.

My mileage is the same but could running on the beach really spark the metabolism this much and make me like this? I've increased my protein up to shut my stomach but I'm an insatiable beast. I don't want to do all this hardworking and then overeat and then gain weight. Please give me a few tips. I get like this with speed work too, but not as bad as it has been since running on the sand all week.

I look at it like this - if I'm hungry, my body is telling me something and I'm going to listen to it. Chat Icon

Sometimes I'll run on an empty stomach and be fine and other times, I do feel hunger and can't wait to finish so I can eat something. In general, I try not to get to the point where I feel hungry so I'm eating just about every 3 hours.

I know running is a different situation though. Check this infographic out, I don't worry about eating after a workout because if you eat the right things, it can help you more than normal:

Re: Running on beach, in the sand

You are using many more leg muscles on the sand... especially ankle for stabilizing. Its a great workout. Keep up the good work!
Like the previous poster, if i am hungry, i eat.
