Not much action on this board lately. What has everyone been up to? Any good stories?

What's Shakin'?

Traveling for work. I should have a long stretch at home pretty soon. No really good stories, although during my dental cleaning a family of 5 came in and terrorized the whole office till the dentist finally intervened. The parents thought it was perfectly acceptable for the kids to wander into treatment rooms and ask questions because "they really curious". I also appreciated the hacking coughs and runny noses in the waiting room.

What's Shakin'?

I'm no longer childless, but I had to share a story...

So I'm at the pediatricians office a couple weeks ago and a woman brings in her 4 kids. They are all unruly. Running around and the mom even "loses" one of her boys numerous times. At one point, he was almost out the door and into the parking lot. She had zero control over her children. They were in the sick section while I was there with my daughter for her well visit in another room. She is 4 months old. Same kid who almost ran out of the building, comes up to my child and begins to try to touch her. I didn't want to put my hands on him so I told him "no, no, we don't touch etc etc" but he wasn't getting it... And continued to try to touch my dd... I actually had to hold my arm out to hold him back...I was FURIOUS. And where was the mom? Nowhere to be found...

I was disgusted at her lack of parenting and so were all the parents around me witnessing this circus... Some people should not be allowed to procreate numerous times... UGH!!!!

Re: What's Shakin'?

After moving from NY to CA over the summer with DH, i am now on week 3 in Germany for training for my new job. I go back to CA next Thursday and i cant wait to see DH.
Germany has been OK but would have been better to share the experience with DH.

Omg id be livid.

I was recently at a sporting event and there was a kid with family on a harness type thing with a leash. He was acting wild so it was good he was wearing it, otherwise he'd be gone! It just looks strange seeing a kid on a leash.

Re: What's Shakin'?

Our summer was fun, though not too busy. We've been super busy in the past few weeks with concerts (Peter Gabriel, Neil Young/Foo Fighters, Love for Levon Helm show, and then last week we went up to Boston to see Morrissey open his US tour Chat Icon)

I love the ability to just get up and go, and all we have to do is just leave extra food for the cats. :)

No more concerts for awhile though Chat Icon Well, three weeks, but still. That's awhile for me.

DH and I will be going to Bangladesh and Istanbul soon, which we are both super excited about! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Funny enough, as I was typing about the trip, my Istanbul tour book was delivered to my desk! Yay!

I don't have any real child horror stories...but I did spend time with my sister and niece recently and I know I am not cut out for being a parent. There is just so much dedication, so much time, so much giving of yourself and I admire the people that do choose to be parents, but it's just not something DH and I will do.

We like just tossing down extra food for the cats and toodling along to wherever we are going. Chat Icon

They did, the kids just wandered around once they got bored.

Re: What's Shakin'?

Nothing much. Just took our last trip of the year and have had to deal with a LOT of jealousy from SIL. She is always making comments. For example, on my birthday we went out to dinner and then to a champagne bar. When we "checked in" or mentioned it on FB she made some comment like "Must be nice to be so rich"...it was my 30th birthday..I think I spent $13 on a flight..big spender.

On our trip she was making some snide jealous comments on facebook about our travel.

She got married at 18 and has 3 kids. She didn't finish college and her DH didn't attend at all. I say this not to knock her, but our CHOICES have led us to different places in life. If you have 3 kids, you don't work, and your husband is blue collar, of course you're going to have a different lifestyle (not better or worse, just different) from 2 childless working adults with college degrees.

Several people make comments about our travel. We've been married for less than a year and a half and in that time we've done 5 big weeklong trips plus a shorter night here and there kind of thing. #1 - I do plan to have children so I want to travel now #2 - You don't see the things we give up to be able to do the travel- CHOICES #3 - Hello! I'm a travel agent. #4 - Mind your business.

ETA: We just got back from Disney and I am ALL :kidded; out. I said I didn't want to see another kid for awhile and then i got a call that my class was starting a week early and i had to get off the plane and teach less than 12 hours later.
