Heartburn...
Hey... I'm not sure if I should be posting here, but I guess I'll give it a shot.
For the past few weeks, I've been getting severe heartburn after eating almost anything. Is this the same thing as acid reflux? I don't understand why this is happening all of a sudden. My diet hasn't changed. I am Hyperthyroid and I have genetically high cholesterol (not sure if i wrote that correctly - high cholesterol NOT due to diet).
Any thoughts? TIA! I'm tired of popping TUMS every time this happens, although it does seem to make it go away. I just don't want to be covering up a bigger problem.

Re: Heartburn...
I would see a doctor--it could be acid reflux issues--and he could prescribe Nexium or something like that--I have a friend on Nexium, he says it really helps.
HTH!! Feel better!

Re: Heartburn...
Definitely see a Dr. I went thru the same thing for over a month!! The first the the Dr did was an EKG to make sure it was not my HEART! I'm actually going for a stress test tomorrow (although I'm feeling way better).
Do you have a sour, acid taste in your mouth? I didn't so the doc thought I was having esophageal spasms as opposed to reflux. Anyway, he prescribed Protonix and I've been feeling great - no heartburn at all (but I still do sometimes feel like things get stuck in my throat or take a while to go down).
Good luck!

Re: Heartburn...
I battle with severe acid reflux on and off for years. The time when it got the worst and I discovered it was not diet that brought it on but stress. Stress and anxiety can cause acid build up just like food also, the less you eat (if you are dieting) sometimes the acid from stress becomes more noticeable. My doc at the time put me on prevacid for a month. The worst was gone. Since then I have it off and on but deal with it with maalox. Hope this helps

Re: Heartburn...
I'd had acid reflux due to stress - I've been lucky to not experience it for a while but all you can do is sit up, pop something and hope it makes you feel better until you get to a doctor. GL

Re: Heartburn...
Thanks for the input! Next time I go to the doc for bloods (thyroid), I will let him know about this. I'm just not looking forward to getting put on more meds.
We'll see!!!
