Another resume question

OK, I know it is supposed to only be 1 page, it's been drilled into me.

But what if it truly won't fit on 1 page? If a person has a lot of varied experience, all in the same field. For example, a nurse who has worked in varying roles (floor nurse on a specialized unit like post partum, a wound care specialist, a nursing coordinator, endoscopy nurse, etc). Or, like myself, as a pharmacist, I have had a few different positions, all of which had specific nuances to them that all add to my experience, including teaching roles and community service aspects.

What should be cut? Or just go to the second page and not worry about it?

Re: Another resume question

I had a similar issue and I updated my resume to be one page, but I just focus on all the different types of skills/experience I have.

If you want me to email you a sample of the resume I worked off of, FM me. I got this rec from a few other people who work in my field. I am in healthcare/human services.

I think the longness of my resume was hurting me.

I think you should find a way to keep it one page, and if you want to get into the nuances of how the different positions have provided varied experience, use your cover letter for that purpose.

I would list all of your positions, but limit the description. Also, maybe you can make formatting or font changes that can help you fit everything better. Have you run it past anyone else, or even considered using the services of a resume writer?

I feel like the resume is just to give the outline of your experience and get you in the door. Once you are there, you can fill in the blanks at the interview.
