LI teachers, do we have to make these days up?
Does anyone know if these days will have to be made up? I heard that in a state of emergency days don't get made up, but I'm wondering if that's true.
Do you think we'll be back at all this week?

I'm hearing conflicting things on this...so I'm not sure  I hope we don't have to make them up...it's only October!
I heard on News12 some schools have already closed until Monday (they didn't say which ones though). I think it will really depend on the area, power outages, road conditions, etc.

I've also heard that any days for an emergency do not have to be made up.

My friends daughter in FL had to make up days when they were out for an extended period of time due to a hurricane... Can't remember which hurricane but it was a few years ago and they added the days to the end of the year.

WE were told that districts have to appeal to the state and likely they will forgive some days, but not the whole week. If you think about it, it doesn't make sense to not have to make the days up...a week is ALOT of instruction for students to miss. I Guess we'll see what happens....I just hope that we don't have a rough winter.....

most districts have about 2 snow days built in, so those are gone. So really it's only 3 days (so far). But we don't have the luxury of adding days onto the end of the year because of Regents Exams. But my evaluation depending on the results of those Regents Exams so I can see why they would want to make us come in during our scheduled vacation.

When Hurrican Irene damged upstate, the days were forgiven so it's unlikely we will have to make them up.

I heard from a Union president that it is up to the Governor...he will likely excuse them but nobody really knows right now

LI teachers, do we have to make these days up?
I am scared to see what's going to happen in my district. The last time we were out for an extended period because of a snow storms most districts forgave those days and didn't have to make them up but my district made us.We have 183 or 184 teaching days in our contract plus 2 sup. conference days and they like to make sure that they hold us to all that is required. I am afraid of what they will do, once we start having snow days too because this winter is suppose to be bad.
