Cooking with MSG

How concerned should I be? I told my friend that I use Sazon in my meatloaf and she seemed surprised and mentioned that I should really be careful since it has MSG and that she doesn't buy anything that contains it. Chat Icon I like using Sazon. Are my organs shutting down as I type this?

Well, I look at it this way, China has the worlds largest population and they eat MSG in everything they cook, and they smoke like chimneys...Their average life expectancy is 73 while the USA's is 78. You will probably be okay.

Cooking with MSG

There are definitely documented risks. Will it kill you? Probably not, but why take the risk of putting crap in your body.

Re: Cooking with MSG

I just read this interesting article which makes me think differently about MSG.

Re: Cooking with MSG

I do like Sazon but I use it like four times a year, so I don't worry that much about the msg in it. I also don't consume msg otherwise. If you eat Sazon like weekly I would probably tell you to cut back or if you eat other things with msg I also would say to cut back. See how often you use sazon and other items that have msg and decide from there.

Re: Cooking with MSG

I think some people are sensitive to it and others aren't.
I know it can trigger migraines in some, and other bad reactions but if it doesn't bother you, I think it's ok once in a while

Re: Cooking with MSG

Get the brand "La Flor" sazon
It has no MSG. I find it at compare supermarket.
MSG was triggering my sons migraines so I had to stop using Goya brand.

Re: Cooking with MSG

It won't kill you but Sazon and the bouillon cubes (sp?) and broths all contain MSG. I for one avoid MSG and anything with the word autolyzed in its ingredient list.

You also need to be wary bc of the high sodium content. Same with Adobo, very high in sodium.

Cooking with MSG

I avoid everything with MSG. I have noticed I get less headaches when I eat chemical free food

MSG is not a chemical.
It is a glutamate (natural flavoring) mixed with sodium (salt).
I get headaches when I 've eaten too much salt - that's because my blood pressure goes up too high.
