I've never had one, but SNAPS in Wantagh is supposed to be known for their unique burger menu.
I've had some of their other food which is amazing.
I recommend making a reservation though........it's kind of small inside.
Google them and they list their burger menu which looks yummy.

Healy's Inn in Greenlawn for their Bison or Kobe Beef burgers. 
Otherwise, Roll-N-Roaster in Brooklyn...more so for the liquid cheese on the burger.

The best burger I ever had was at Louie's Lunch in New Haven, Connecticut, but unlike my husband and me, I doubt most people will take a ferry ride and drive 90 minutes to eat a burger.
