Speech Therapy
My daughter will be turning 3 next month and attends Nursery school. They keep telling me that she doesn't speak in class. I know she is very shy so that could be one of the issues. She does talk a lot at home but is still having a hard time pronoucing each word. We understand her because we're her parents but so does my MIL and SIL. I just feel that by the age of 3 she should be speaking properly. Do I need to start looking for a speech therapist or am I jumping the gun here?

Re: Speech Therapy
Do it. Get her evaluated. The same thing happened to my ds when he was 3 and started nursery. They recommended we get him evaluated, which I agreed with. Turns out he qualified for speech and OT, both once a week for the school year. It was the best thing for him, and made such an improvement. Not a dime out of pocket, and so worth it. What's the worse that can happen? Either way you don't lose. She either gets extra help, or they tell you she's at a correct level. I wouldn't worry

Re: Speech Therapy
I took DS when the ped said a third party caregiver should be able to understand 75%. at 3 I couldn't understand 75%
Articulation issues are age appropriate. It's usually receptive delays or when kids cannot express at home or at school that qualifies.
but evals don't hurt...we learned a lot about ds with them.

Speech Therapy
It can only help to get her evaluated. There is no out of pocket cost to you. I would call the early intervention department for your county and see of she would be evaluated through them, or the CPSE committee from your school district. Somewhere around 3 depending on their bday is the cut off for transition.
Personally I wouldn't wait much longer. The earlier things are detected and worked on, the earlier they can be discharged!! Good luck!!
