I dont really know what I want to do...
I am supposed to start with LI-IVF this cycle and do a natural IUI with no meds, then next cycle a medicated one if g-d forbid I need it. Well, jokingly, (I dont know why) my dh asked me if I would consider waiting to go to LI-IVF until January and we could just try naturally for the rest of this year and this would let me join WW (the dr said to lose some weight) and then in Oct I am leaving my pt job which is also what the dr said, if I didnt need the money (which we dont, I just enjoy it) so it would reduce the stress.
The dr said there is nothing wrong with either one of us, its just my age. I would use the CBFM and see how it goes, what do you think.
I hate making all these decisions.

Re: I dont really know what I want to do...
I am 40 going to be 41 in January. I have been trying since last June. There were a couple of months I didnt ovulate and a couple that my dh was on medicine that killed his sperm and now everything is fine. I tried 5 IUI's and they didnt work, they were all on clomid.
My friend had all these problems and her dr told her that losing about 20-30 pounds would significantly help her and it did and she got pregnant on her own.

Re: I dont really know what I want to do...
Well, if you already did 5 clomid IUI's, I would certainly skip the unmedicated one.
As for waiting...that is a very personal decision. I am 38, and am very conscious as time ticks by...
But, if you are going to be making changes that could really help your fertility, it might be worth it. It sounds like you really want to wait...

Re: I dont really know what I want to do...
IMHO I would go directly to IVF at this point..age is a VERY big factor and IUI success rates are much lower then IVF to begin with..
lots of luck!!

as painful as it is to hear. This would be my opinion also. BUt if you want to wait until January to cycle that sounds reasonable.

Re: I dont really know what I want to do...
I am also 40 and will be 41 in October. I started seeing an RE last year and wish I had gone sooner. If your doctor is an RE, then it may not hurt to wait a few months. If your doctor is not an RE, I would make an appointment to see one. I feel that my ob/gyn had us waste an extra 6 months using OPKs and trying naturally.
All my bloodwork and other tests are normal also. My "only" issue is my age but for REs, that is a problem. Fertility decreases very quickly at this age. My husband also has a low sperm count and that doesn't help. But, again, if both of you are fine and you are seeing an RE, it is a personal decision. Good luck. I know it's not easy.

Re: I dont really know what I want to do...
I would skip the IUI and wait and do the IVF when you have lost the weight - which, by the way, is exactly my plan. I am going to be 41 in October, but am waiting for DH's insurance to kick in (Nov./Dec.) and to lose about 30 pounds and then I am going to IVF. Also, I had 8 IUI cycles, 2 cancelled, and no BFP so I don't see the sense of continuing IUI's - the success rate is not that much higher than trying naturally. Whatever you decide, I wish you luck!
