Whats up with the hair twirling?
DS is 3 and over the last 2 weeks or so, has started to twirl the hair on the top of his head... He does it most of the day. He falls asleep twirling it, when he is playing he does it, in the car, everywhere.. My Mom says it is nerves... I say he just found something new to do.. Can it be a part of his SPD? The hair on top of his head is long. Could it be bothering him?

I think it's just a stim or nerves. I actually twirl my hair constantly and when I was younger my parents use to yell at me to stop lol. DD started twirling too but I think she was copying me so I stopped doing it as much but it is a constant effort : ). If it really bothers you then give him something else to focus his hands on and redirect.

It doesn't bother me as much as it does my mom! It just seemed to start out of no where and I was wondering if it was part of the SPD.. When he was really little, he use to twirl MY hair when I was feeding him..... He will do it for a minute and then stop and go onto something else. Or he will do it for 3-5 minutes while he is playing or watching tv... No rhyme or reason with him..

It just may be soothing. I twirled my hair since I was a baby. I still do. It calms me.

I have notice over the last 2 days, that he doesn't do it as much... It was probably a soothing thing to him...

OMG...my son is doing this to the point he has a bald spot
We cut his hair short and he stops.
I actually twirl my hair too.
