How do you afford it (what I've seen is over $2K per kid for 6 weeks)!?

I have 2 kids, 7 and 9. I work FT. Last 2 years we had a free program at the school. The funding is gone. We live in Queens and I work in Great Neck.

I'm hoping that I get a good tax refund, but was also hoping to use that for a trip to Disney in the next 1-2 years. Chat Icon

We are paying 2500 for 2 kids, 3 short days a week. they are very young and did not do camp last year. This year we are forgoing a summer trip to Disney so they can go to camp. I am not sure what we are going to do when they get older and when I am working FT Chat Icon

It's hard if you don't have family to help

I am thinking next summer, DH and I will take several weeks each during the summer to avoid this crazy cost

I hear you....
I would start saving money as of now
Thats what we do. We put away a pay check once every month.
By the time summer comes you have saved up the money

Not sure what the city has, but our town (Huntington) offers half and full day camps from $250/6 weeks (half day) to $250/2 weeks full day.

Is it tough to get in? My mother said that their full day camp is first come first serve and has always been tough to get into b/c everyone wants a spot. It wouldn't be for me as I do not live in TOH anymore but my friend & my mom were talking about it. My son is going to a private camp & the early payment discount is gone after this week so it does pay to look into camps early.

Have you checked out the YMCA camps? They seem to be more affordable.
