At school today

Normally, my DC's school is locked, during school hours and open after. My DC attend aftercare. Normally, I get there, go in the main door and just walk through the school to pick them up. Today, front doors were locked as were ALL other doors. We are now ONLY allowed to pick them up at a different door and THAT door is locked and you have to be buzzed in, ONLY if they know you. If it IS not a parent, and someone else is sent they must be notified ahead of time and they are not allowed to enter until the SACC director calls the parent to confirm. I have to say, I was quite pleased.

That was the normal procedure at my kids school at the start of the school year, but before the tragedy occurred they changed the procedure. Now parents are no longer permitted to congregate inside of the school. There is a guard who comes to each car to ask who your child is and if they don't know you - you have to show ID and there are procedures for people other than parents but they must be on file with the school. If you come to the school during school hours then you have to be buzzed in.

Honestly none of these things will work if there is a psycho on the lose. I don't think the shooter last week was buzzed in. I believe I read he shot his way in? In any event, it's nice that they are stepping up security.
