Found a kitty
She came right up to me in my driveway and then up my stoop. My cats were checking her out through my storm door.
She is very friendly, looks well fed but dirty like she's been outside for a while. I gave her food and water and left her outside. In the am she was on my stoop again. I gave her more food. She ate like she hasn't eaten in days.
She is someone's cat. Very friendly, not scared and adorable. I can't bring her inside even though I would like to.
So I was going to post on petfinder and call TOB animal shelter.
What else should I do?

Re: Found a kitty
facebook page: long island lost and found pets and also try hurricane sandy lost and found pets---send them a picture and description
also call the local vets offices in your area to see if anyone has reported a missing cat or just give them the info describing the cat and leave your number in case they need to reach you
you can even post "FOUND" fliers in your neighborhood also check craigs list for lost and found pets and you can even post an ad on there stating that you found a cat---(of course make sure that whomever contacts you shows proof of ownership!)
the shelter would be my VERY last resort!!! good luck!

Re: Found a kitty
I spoke to TOB Shelter and they said if she's friendly and disease free they would put her up for adoption. They said they will have room soon since some of their cats are coming out of quarantine and into the cat room. Am I naive about that?
I sent them pics of her and they said they get calls and would post it on their website.
I will do the FB thing and may do flyers.
She has to be local.

Re: Found a kitty
I'm pretty sure all town shelters on Long Island are kill shelters. She is probably safer outside than in some of these shelters unfortunately.
Are you able to get a pic of her to post on the sites that the other poster mentioned? Maybe you could set up an outdoor shelter until her owner is found?
You should also try calling the local vets. Could you bring her to a vet to see if she is microchipped?
I would also absolutely contact Lost and Found Pets of Long Island; I've seen a bunch of lost cats posted on their FB page recently.

Re: Found a kitty
She hasn't been around lately. I hope she went home.
