Working with Dyslexic students
Does anyone have any success stories or tips for working with a Dyslexic student?
I'm a K-5 reading teacher but because I work with a F&P program, I have to take students that are all on the same level. I was asked by my admin to work with a 2nd grade Dyslexic student during a prep period a few times a week. I'm willing to do it, but really want to give him the help that he needs. He's already getting FUNdations in his class and I'm not sure how well that is going.
I put in a request for an iPad for him since I found a few apps that look promising. But what else should I be doing with him?
TIA

Re: Working with Dyslexic students
I have a severely dyslexic student in my English class this year (8th grade). He has a Dragon Software program on his computer at home that really helps him. He writes what he wants, and then reads it to the computer, which then types it out for him. That way, he doesn't have to worry about spelling everything correctly, and is able to get his thoughts down on paper.

There were some amazing app ideas for the ipad on the National Center for LD. I used colored paper under my students work to help them.

Re: Working with Dyslexic students
I posted A long response to a.similar post awhile back. Do a search for it :) I am certified in Wilson which is Very successful for dyslexics. It.is much slower paced and more intensive than Fundations.
