Girls who do push ups

Can you do the non-modified ones (without being on knees?)

How long did it take you to accomplish those? Any tips for me as I try to meet my goals?

I can't do a regular old push up for the life of me and its a goal of mine to work towards doing them the regular way.

I think I have always had poor upper body strength and want to change it.

I can only do 5, 7 if I really push. I try and do it before I do it in the shower and I really want to build up to 25. If you spread out your hands it is a little easier.

......wait - you do them in the shower?? I need to know. Chat Icon

I see they are more doable if I spread my hands out..that's a good idea. Maybe I will do some modified ones with the hands close and try some regular ones with my hands spread.

do you find they really work out and tone your arms if you are consistant with it?

LOL..I really need to proof read..I do it before I go into the shower. Push-ups really work your entire body. You will notice a big difference in your arms, chest and back. By pulling your stomach in, you are also working your core.

Re: Girls who do push ups

I can do 10, 15 if I push myself and on a good day 20. I'm not really sure how I got to them, I guess just ages and ages of modified push ups to work up to it? Try doing let's say 15 push ups a day, start at the bottom by doing 14 modified and 1 regular, then the next day 2 regular, etc. etc. and just build up to it! You'll get there! They really are a great exercise for the entire upper body.

The closer your hands are, you will be working your triceps. This will most likely be more difficult.
Start by doing a regular push up. Do as many as you can, keep your belly button drawn in, abs tight. Then switch to modified. The next time try to do one more than the last. Push ups are difficult. But keep practicing.

Yes I can. I can do up to 50 at a time.

Look up hand release push ups on YouTube. They are a staple at Crossfit and that is how I got so good.

Re: Girls who do push ups

I can do non modified pushups, about 3 sets of 20 with a little break in between each set. This is coming from someone who used to have no upper body strength what so ever. I would say it has taken me about a year or so to accomplish this. I was a cardio and running junkie for most of my exercise life and about a year ago, decided to start incorporating more weights and strength training in about 4 days a week and cut back my mileage. The added weights and strength training have made such a difference in my body. However, I still hate pushups, lol

Re: Girls who do push ups

I can do at least 20 per set, rest, then another set. I can do several sets....

Trick is, if you want to build up to it, you can't do any on your knees. Focus on doing 10. 1 whole one, then do the rest on knees. Then 2, 3, etc....

Re: Girls who do push ups

I can do about 20 at a time, maybe 2-3 sets? I usually turn my hands so my pointer fingers are toward each other and wide. I cannot do tricep pushups yet.

I wasn't able to do full range pushups until about a year ago. It took a lot of work!
