Vitamins

I still have a 2 month supply of Prenate elite from when I was PG. I plan on starting to take them daily when I get my next period - we're not TTC until Oct. I also have a 5 month refill on them. I will be seeing my GYN after I get my next period - do I take extra folic acid also or will the prenatals be enough?

The prenatals should have more then enough folic acid. Check the back of the jar/box and see what it has. It probably has 400mg...which is fine. You dont really need to take any more folic acid (400mg is enough) until you're PG. Then I think doctors tell you to take 800mg. That's what my dr. said.

I dont take prenatals (per se) becasue they are too much $ (it was about $100 for my prescription!). I buy the women's mega vitamins from GNC which have all the same ingredients - including folic acid. I take an additional 200mg of folic acid a couple of times a week. The GNC mega vitamins are time-released and I love them (and they dont make me sick)...they are much much less $ too. My OBGYN said they were fine to take as prenatals.

My Dr. suggested I continuer to take follic acid, after the m/c, until I get pg again. So I take 2 follic acid every night -- and no pre-natals at all....

I went to the doc yesterday and was prescribed Precare Conceive. There are a few out there but these "sound more positive" as she said I am still on BCP but will start to take these as soon as I get them (I sent away from them through Medco By Mail). It will cost me $57.17 for 100 pills. If I were to get them through the regular drug store, it would have been 22 for 1 month's worth (I guess 35 pills ).
If you have a mail in program for medicine from your health insurance, you are much better off cost wise.
