Can someone please explain I Block to me?
I got a note home in DS folder about him working with some teacher (not his regular teacher) during I Block. Right now they are dealing with comprehension and junior great books. The title Intervention Block leads me to believe he's getting extra help. But I know that DS reads on a high level. So I tried looking up information and it seems as though all kids get I Block, but can be broken up in to groups based on ability. Is that the case? Is it possible that he's a good reader, but getting extra help in comprehension? Or are they just reinforcing comprehension skills he already has? I just don't get it.

Re: Can someone please explain I Block to me?
What grade is he in? I'm not an elementary teacher so I'm answering as a mom. My DD, who is in K, was placed in intervention for reading in the fall. I was really surprised because I made sure she knew her letters and sounds. Her teacher told me that the benchmarks are much higher now, and they expect a certain level of speed. Almost 50% of the kindergarten needed intervention, and this is a solidly middle class district where nearly everyone goes to preschool. My DD knew the material, but wasn't quick. So there may be factors like that in play.
I would not worry about it- chances are, he will get the intervention and test out soon. My DD tested out last month and has already met the spring benchmarks.
