Career change
I have been teaching for 6 years and am currently on maternity leave. I work in Brooklyn at a charter school and the commute is hell and teaching has just become way too stressful. I can't imagine dealing with the stress of work, lesson planning and everything and now a baby at home. I am looking for other options come September.
I have seen people mention doing freelance work or working for agencies. Does anyone have any info on getting into either of these. I am certified in childhood ed and special ed.
TIA

Re: Career change
When I was unemployed last summer, I checked Scholastic and Pearsons websites everyday for job positings. I used linked in to see if I had any connections at either organization. Turns out my former coworker's wife worked at the subsidiary that I was interested in. The job posting I applied for got cut, but they still have me do freelance.
Your best bet is to see if you know someone who works in the organization or to try to do some cold interviews. I researched a lot about networking when I was being laid off and it really helped me make connections with people to improve my job search.

Re: Career change
I am in the same boat. I am also on child care (NYCDOE) and I'm looking into getting work at an agency.
Don't have too much experience. I just made a post asking questions about this too. :)
Right now, I made a list of agencies and I am going to start applying and hope something comes up. From their websites, it looks like many are hiring.
Good luck!
