affordable summer camps in Suffolk?

DD did the town of Islip camp last summer. It was OK but she was a bit bored with it. It was very affordable though and offered a part time program which was good because I only work 9-2.

Id like to look into a different one but they all seem soo pricey. I cant afford to spend 1000's for 8 weeks. any suggestions for affordable camps in Suffolk, especially if they offer part time options?

I could be wrong but I think it's mostly... PT town camps, school district themed camps/weeks (depending upon the district), the YMCA or the private $$$ camps.

Re: affordable summer camps in Suffolk?

I use the town of Islip camps too and that is the most affordable one around that I have found in the last so many years.

Give it Your All Sports in Ronkonkoma has a camp. It looked pretty affordable, and I think they had different themes last year from what I remember seeing on their site.

Long Island Cheer does camp for several weeks, I forget how much, but it runs until 2 or 3pm I think

We are sending one of my DC to St Pats in Smithtown, they do full and half days. We are paying $1480.00 for two FT days a week for 8 weeks.

Some districts have a program through Boces. I checked the info online from last year and it was $300 total (for an out of district resident) for 2 weeks full time 9-4pm in the Bayport district. It's educational and fun from the looks of it. This was last year's brochures to check it out. Not sure if they will offer it this year. They offered half day too (9-12)

Yes, check out the site online or you can see the Rec news that you should have received already in the mail.

I would do it soon though as the expanded camps might be full or almost full.

Their hours are 8:15-5:45 M-F (different locations) total for all 8 weeks is $1,060.

My son did the Bay Shore one last year and it was horrible. It was like summer prison. I don't know how the other locations are but this one wasn't for me. It was $1000 for the full day, $300 for the half.

ETA- I pulled him out in 10 days with only a partial refund. It was worth losing the money.

One of my former coworkers put her daughter in the Lake Ronkonkoma one every year. She was happy with it, and it was full day.

That stinks! I read its run by teachers in the actual district it's held in, so I guess it probably varies. I have no need for camp, so won't be signing up anyway.

Actually there were NO Bay Shore teachers in our camp. The year before we had a great summer school/camp program with all of our own teachers. My son went and loved it. I don't know how the other camps are, but last year was the first year for Bay Shore. I'm sure the other locations could be better though.

Re: affordable summer camps in Suffolk?

Best deals I have found are at the Y and The Young People's Day Camp at NYIT.. both are comparable (or better) than the Town and the one at NYIT includes door to door transport. Center Island Sports is only 185 per week.. but it's only until 3pm.

The only thing with the town camp is that they don't have all the bells and whistles as the other ones (more expensive) have.
Broken down in 8 weeks, the town is only $132.50/week.

Ahh! I was looking at the 'sessions' as weeks. I don't care about bells and whistles. I just need a safe place to tuck my kids. Thanks for pointing out that sessions aren't 'weeks'!

Each session is 2 weeks but if you use all 8 weeks Nd break it down, that is what it comes to. Some weeks are more expensive than others though and that would make a difference if you don't use all sessions.
