Does anybody like quiliting? My MIL is an avid quilter and she has gotten my hooked! I'm working on a throw but I'm doing it by hand (alas, no sewing maching) so it is VERY slow- but it's very relaxing!

I have always wanted to learn too. I prefer machine stitching though.

We still need to get a digital camera so I don't have any pics

But, it's really not very hard! You can buy a pattern with material in a package. Then you follow the instructions for cutting the material- and start sewing the blocks together- this is for a simple piecework quilt. So, for my quilt I have to do 18 blocks- each block I sew four squares together. I've done nine blocks so far.

Once the 18 blocks are sewn, then I sew THEM together with a solid square in between them- this will be chenille (to make the throw more cozy). Then, the quilt top is finished! (I'll probably be 80!)

Then, you lay batting down in the middle and sew the quilt top on top of a backing- I'll do a VERY simple stitch- and that's it!

I made a quilt for my neice for her christening. It came out pretty nice, though I am not very patient so I jumped into it without enough planning so it became, for one, HUGE (I mean, for a full bed, ok, but for a baby crib, a little large ) And it had some lumps and bumps in it where I didn't sew straight enough or maybe cut straight enough. But I really enjoyed it and would like to make another but just haven't gotten around to it. It was just patchwork squares from different fabric I bought at a fabic store.
