Re: Speedwork

Hey girl - Do you have a track near by? Or will you do them on a treadmill. I am so not speedy but used to do different workouts with my running group at a track. Ladders are a good one. We also did slow cool down laps in between the longer sprints. Ugh I shudder when I think of those workouts sooo hard! Def try and do them with friends!

Speedwork

I have several different workouts that I like to do. Once a week I do short distance speed work - 8x200s or 6x400s once a week - or hills. I also do tempo runs and fartleks - those are great if you do not have access to a track. If you want more info on how to organize the workout, let me know.

I just had to take off 5+ weeks because of an injury so I know how it is hard to get back into it.

Re: Speedwork

Hills are speed work in disguise. I love hills and running on sand. That always helps my speed when I want to increase my speed,

Re: Speedwork

i havent been able to make it to my clubs track workouts (its held on DH's basketball night) but i try to do speed once a week, although lately i have also been running out of time trying to crosstrain and triathlon train all at once. But If you need specific workouts let me know, i can help. (I am a USATF certified coach now Chat Icon ) I like to run with the kids I coach - they are fast! Anyway, we traing the kids with a lot of speed workouts and tempo runs. Get the book "run less run faster" its based on 3 run days a week. I also love hill workouts.

Re: Speedwork

I live on top of a hill, so it's my fall back for speedwork. hill repeats.

If you want to go to a track or use a treadmill - intervals/repeats are a good way to go. Start with 400s (1/4 mile - one lap)...eventually move to 800 and 1600 repeats. I like ladders too to break up the monotony.

Have you tried fartleks, tempo runs or fast finishes on your road runs?
