So frustrated with the non-responsiveness of my school district
Ive had ups and downs in this CPSE process, but I'm so angry right now. I originally sent a written letter to our district's special ed office in mid-December requesting a CPSE evaluation for my DS, and gave the reasons why. I hadn't yet enrolled him in the district, so I got a call a few days later letting me know I needed to do this first, and then I could get the paperwork. I registered him about 2 days later and left a message to mail me the paperwork. When 2 weeks passed, I called again and arranged to just go there. I eventually got to the actual initial meeting part on march 6th, and they approved services to start April 1st. This timeline is part of the reason I'm so frustrated. It's been 3 1/2 months since my original letter.
So here's why I'm just angry now. At the meeting, the chair said she'd mail out consent and more paperwork for me to sign to get started. I realized I never got it, so I called Monday. And I've called every day since. I've left messages on voicemail and with other people in the office. I haven't gotten a call back and now there's no way services will start on time!
If you've read this far, thanks for letting me vent.

Re: So frustrated with the non-responsiveness of my school district
When I first got in touch with my district, they said after the initial paperwork was mailed (and I could've stopped in too to pick it up), that everything needed to be done face to face.
I have found through the process there tend to be multiple people who pick up on the other end of the phone and I suspect this is why things get lost.
They also play expert when they are merely a secretary/receptionist. (No offense to any secretaries/receptionists).
My long suggestion would be to just go down there in the future.
I also don't want to frustrate you even more, but given the school year is up an running, you may find it difficult to find providers since they already have caseloads.
I was told that NY Therapies is the largest provider so just wanted to throw that out there if you run into issues.

I would send a written letter stating all this. DS is going to get discharged at the end of the year and his speech therapist said that if I ever need to have a re-eval I should send everything via certified mail so they can't ignore it. She said don't even bother calling! Good luck to you!

That's what I tell parents too. My initial request was a certified letter, but I guess there was a loophole because I hadn't thought about DS not actually being registered in the district yet. Im assuming that's why everything wasnt done in a timely manner. I'm definitely sending a letter. Thank you

I'm sorry your are going through this. Can you call the county or state special ed and report the non resonsiveness, lateness you are getting from your school district.
