just a little vent- since I have posted my struggles on here-

maybe this will help someone else

for the last year I have been struggling with an extra 20lbs that wouldn't get off me despite- changeing my diet, trying different supps, becoming vegan- whole food plant based diet, hot yoga, private pilates, running miles, you get the idea - I have spent thousands and countless hours only to end up right back where I was weight wise

I would go to my endo and cry- it was like he didn't believe me

he said my thyriod was fine- it was on the high end of not being fine- but not enough in his eyes to treat despite my symptons

finally my wellness doc put me on a thryriod supplement

my endo never tested me for hashimotos- which goes hand and hand with type 1 diabetes

I take iodine- not knowing this- and my thyriod number shoots up

my endo puts me on synthriod

6 weeks later- I can get out of bed in the morning with no struggle

my energy levels are so much better

my face is no longer puffy

and I am down 4 lbs in 2 weeks- with out working out- and I have my period right now- so that's prob another 2 or 3 lbs

I am just so frustrated that I spent a year of my life living like this- I can't wait to address this with my endo - I am looking for another one- the fact that he never ordered the test for thyriod antibodies really bothers me -

so I was blaming being diabetic for all these issues but now I am thinking it was my thyriod all along- and that maybe it even caused my diabetes

ok- vent over- I am going for new blood work tomorrow and I hope he doesn't want to lower my meds b/c my thyriod levels are better

it's so nice to look in the mirror and see my face- not a puffy face- that I was blaming on wine, gluten and anything else but the real cause

Sorry you had to go through that Beth, but at least now you know what the probable issue is. Hope it gets better for you!

It is great that you found the root cause! It must have been so frustrating to hold extra weight even with such a healthy diet and lifestyle. That said, I'd be VERY unhappy with my endo for not thinking of this in the first place.

Thanks for sharing this.

I have had some weird weight gain lately and I KNOW I need to get myself to the doctor and have blood work done.

I actually made an appt but had to reschedule.

This is pushing me even more now.

Re: just a little vent- since I have posted my struggles on here-

Wow, this is nuts!
So how did they finally come to the conclusion that this is what you have?

It's crazy - I just rec'd an article pretty much about the very same thing. Where 95% of the people with Hypothyroidism have bloodwork that come back in the "normal" range.

I'll post it here if anyone is interested...

ETA: Who is your wellness doc...and do you recommend?

they check my thyriod every 3 months- after taking the iodine supps my number went to 7.9

(normal is 3.0 or less or 4.0- according to docs like mine who still follow the old scale)

clearly at 4.1 I was experincing all the symtoms of hypo

my wellness doc tested me for hashimoto's and it turns out I have that

I plan on having a nice conversation with my endo about not just doing the "minium required" I personally wont accept that any more- I wouldn't accept from a mechanic- why would I accept it from a doctor I chose to help me with my health!

My wellness doc is Dr. Barron of Dream Wellness in smithtown- this man set up a Quest Labs account just to help me with this! talk about going above and beyond!

I was getting to the point of what else can I do?

Lipo?

and I was even more scared to stop trying so hard - I think it's a miracle I held it to 20lbs now that I have done some more research

to make matters a bit worse- I am diabetic- type 1- but still- this 20lbs put me into an overweight BMI- you would think this would be a concern for my doctor

he would tell me to just keep trying

and to drink milk- after I said I was vegan

not to mention milk turns to sugar- good job guy....nutrition needs to be taught to people treating nutrition related issues- Just saying- it's scary when I know more then him

I have a few family members that go to Integrative Healing and Medical Center in Port Washington. They do a very in depth blood work up that has helped them so much. It also checks for toxicity and metal levels in your body and allergies. I know the blood work is covered by insurance but the visits are not so it is $$.

Re: just a little vent- since I have posted my struggles on here-

down 7 lbs total

I nearly fell over when I got on the scale today

I have not been this weight since I did the dream drops - 2 rounds at $300 each- and ate nothing but spinach, peppers and apples

10 lbs to go to my goal

15 to what I weighted in my 20s (pre- breast implants- I think they add 3 lbs from my calculations- that's how desparate I was - I calculated the ccs in my implants....)

I am still following a mostly raw vegan gluten free plant based diet - I do enjoy eating this way and I feel great- I have no plans to stop being vegan- it's nice that I see the response in my body that I thought I should see

I always yo-yoed- very Jessical simpson, Kim K- short girl struggle-

I'm glad you finally got some answers

I have hashimotos. It came up on a blood test. The tricky thing with has hashimoto is that you can test positive for it OR negative and still have it !

I recently was tested again for hashi and it came up as negative. I still have hashimotos though.

It's such a bizarre thing.

My thyroid levels are fine though. I did take synthryoid for a bit.

Do you take vitamin D? Usually those levels are very low when you have these issues.
