Re: ELA test

I thought it was unfair. I teach 8th grade.
The reading passages were too long on the 2nd and 3rd days, and many students weren't able to finish, or finished with a rush job that they weren't proud of.
I don't understand how NYS is going to learn anything about the amazing young minds that I teach based on that "test" they gave them this week. It seems as though they don't really want to learn anything about them....they just want to see them fail so they can claim they know how to teach them better.
I'm angry for them. They deserve better than that.

ELA test

I agree with all. Too long and not a true developmentally appropriate measure of their abilities.

And the fact that those passages were used in the review books the testing company sold to schools who had the money to pay for them...not fair!

I thought the third grade test was difficult- too long and the questions were confusing.

That makes me equally angry and sad. What exactly are they hoping to accomplish with these tests? Why are they trying to ruin education?

B/c they are lining Cuomo's presidential campaign fund. Pearson was on Cuomo's LETTERHEAD inn a recent letter to schools.

The millions of dollars that go to these companies aren't even looked at, but forbid the teachers get a 1% raise.

I graded at BOCES this week and the kids did AWFUL!!! (Books 2&3) There were a ton of blank responses...I thought maybe they opted out, but I think they ran out of time. (it was computer scoring, so I didn't see the rest of their test. )
