The Process

Hi,

For a couple with IF, where do we start to learn more information on adoption options? At this point in our IF journey, we are thinking of other options, adopting being one of them.

For the families that have been through it, be honest with me, how hard is it? Financially? Emotionally? Physically? How long does it typicallly take for international or domestic? Where do we start?

Any info anyone can provide would be appreciated. Feel free to FM me.

Thank you!! Chat Icon

Re: The Process

For us, the process took two years.

I would suggest that you start by doing some research. Alot of agencies have orientations. I would suggest going to one of them. The internet also has alot of information. You will need to decide do you want to adopt internationally or domestically. There are pros and cons of both.

The process is alot. After all the paperwork is done, there are still home studies and interviews to go through. Then there is the waiting period, which to me is the toughest time. We adopted domestically and it was hard knowing that it could take a very long time for a birth mother to choose us. And then knowing she could change her mind at any time was extremely stressful for me.

Financially. it can cost anywhere from $20000-$50000.

All that said, our son was born one year ago. All the stress was well worth it. He is a beautiful boy and I can't imagine my life without him.

Good luck on your journey. Please feel free to fm if you have any questions.

Look up APC (Adoptive parents committee) online and see when there next meeting on LI is. You can get a lot of useful information through them.
