Nyc teachers fmla
I am on maternity. I had a c/s so my 8 weeks brings me to the last day of school.
I will most likely take the remaining 4 weeks of my fmla at the beginning of the school yr, but im not 100% sure.
My secretary told Me to fill out fmla form now. I think she is wrong and should wait til the summer when I know what im def doing. Im entitled to the 8 weeks bc of my c/s. if i dont take those 4 weeks i dont need to fill out fmla, right?
What are your thoughts? I went to the workshop and i think she said to wait. I emailed her but she never replied.

i personally would wait until you know what you are doing. They are so screwed up it really wont matter, lol. They paid me all throughout my FMLA with DC1 and it took them a year to deduct it from my pay. as a professional courtesy, I'd let them know ASAP so they van get a reliable sub to start the school year for you.

Re: Nyc teachers fmla
It depends if you are going to run out of days in your CAR before the end of the school year. FMLA will keep your health insurance active for the 12 weeks. I know that I had DS on May 6th and will not have enough days to make it to the end of the year in my CAR (even with borrowing and grace) so for insurance purposes I had to fill out the FMLA to make sure I still keep my health insurance. At least this is how it was explained to me. My payroll secretary is pretty good (I know a lot aren't) because my school is like a baby factory.

Thanks thats a good point I am insured through DH I borrowed 20 days and needed 1 grace day so that shouldn't be an issue

I went to the maternity workshop recently and they said don't do the FMLA until you are actually starting it. They also suggested beginning the FMLA AFTER those 2 PD days for 2 reasons: 1. It allows you to get your 4 full weeks instead of losing a full week for only 2 days of work. 2. It looks good that you are going in to get "updated" on the new year.

She actually called me back and said apparently now we are suppose to fill out the fmla form and send tonsecretary but leave off the ending date
