Hi Everyone,
Lauren here from Assemblymember Rosenthal's office. As I am sure you have all heard by now, Assemblymember Rosenthal passed A.740-A last night in the Assembly. We have all been working really hard to get this bill (3753-Puppy Mill Bill) through because it will restore municipality's authority to regulate pet dealers, and ultimately help put an end to puppy mills.
...we really need to mobilize. ... I know you have all been emailing and using FB and Twitter and for that we cannot thank you enough, but we need calls and we need them now.
If there is any group that can do this, I know that it is this one! You are some of the most dedicated advocates for animal rights we have ever worked with. We need your help now. ...(insert your zip code here and call your senator NON-STOP http://www.nysenate.gov/)

ETA:call also Senator Dean Skelos @ 518-455-3171 -POLITELY ask him to bring the bill to the Senate floor for a vote and call Sen. Cathy Young (518) 455-3563-her office told me she DOES NOT support the Bill but may change her mind if she gets enough calls.

Thank you!! I found an article on it and also the Facebook page of the driving force behind the bill - Susan Lask, a NY attorney. I'm waiting for the Patch article to be published now, and sent Susan the Patch editor's email address to give her a quote as well (I'd think she would add more legitimacy to the article than my quotes)
SCORE!! I hope this means big changes coming NY's way!

So sadly, a puppy that was surrendered to the Long Island Bulldog rescue recently passed away---why?? well he was a puppy mill dog--so sad :(He had been sick since 2 months old. The rescue and doctors tried to do everything they could. These puppy mills have to go!

And that's why people think sheltered dogs are 'damaged' or 'broken'. Because so many of them fill up with animals that were irresponsibly bred. Or the people who impulse buy get rid of them at the first sign of trouble.
I get really aggravated when people insinuate that my rescue dog is somehow lesser than my breeder dog. She is actually much stronger health wise than my purebred. Go figure.
