Help needed please! Ozzie hurt himself...
What would you do? It seems Ozzie hurt one of his hind legs. We have no idea how or when, he has been playing and happy all day. About 15 minutes ago he came up onto the couch and my husband noticed he struggled to get up (he had been on the couch 10 minutes prior with no issues) and then DH was rubbing him and he rubbed a spot on his hip/leg and Ozzie squealed. We then got him to walk a bit and he isn't limping and doesn't seem to be in pain when just walking, but when we told him to jump up on us (which would require balancing on his hind legs) he half-tried and then gave up, obviously in some discomfort. Any time we put any pressure on his hind leg he squeals, but other than that and not jumping he seems okay. We iced for 20 minutes, and he is lying on the floor and even lying on the side that bothers him, but he won't come up on the couch and doesn't really want to get up much. He just looks so forlorn and it hurts my heart. I want to cry.
Immediate need for vet? See how he is tomorrow? Take him in regardless? Thoughts?

Poor guy
I would give it till tomorrow and see how he is doing. I definitely wouldn't stress and bring him to an emergency vet unless he is crying when walking. Something similar happened to Toby a couple of months back and within a day he seemed back to normal so hopefully he just pulled something. Will he let you check the area to make sure nothing looks off? If so, maybe try to see if you can pin point exactly where the pain is coming from. Good luck!

Thank you! He is not crying when walking. He will let us in the area but sometimes we can find the spot/he squeals and sometimes we can't. We stopped because I don't want to aggravate it. DH has him out to pee now and when he comes back I'll ice again. I hate that he can't tell us how bad it is, you know? I worry about him so much I hope I'm not this worried as a human-mom!

Re: Help needed please! Ozzie hurt himself...
def. no jumping, running, try to avoid steps right now-I would go as far as leash walks in the yard for bathroom--I am a bit cautious but, you don't know what it is--so I;d err on the side of caution!
poor baby- I think you'd be fine to wait til tomorrow could be a sprain...hopefully not acl :(

Could just be he pulled something. Make sure nothing is stuck in his foot, leg, etc or nothing that appears red (such as a bee sting, etc). My male sprains his leg often since he was a pup. A cause could never be found. I would give it until tomorrow and see, then maybe take him for an X-ray. Hope he is better soon.

Re: Help needed please! Ozzie hurt himself...
Nothing red, nothing stuck in there definitely. We have felt the area quite thoroughly and it just seems to be tender to him. We live in a building so all our walks are on leash, and we use the elevator so that isn't a problem. He went out for his bedtime walk and came back in good spirits. I iced a bit more but he seems okay for now. I will be keeping a very close eye on him today and tomorrow.

Yes! He's doing much better. It was a rough couple days early in the week but now it's as if he doesn't remember he hurt himself because we are trying to keep him resting for a few more days and he just wants to run, jump and play! Phew!
