No Teachers Choice $ This Year?
I was just going to post this:
from the uft website:
Teacher's Choice
The City Council and the mayor adopted a city budget for the 2013-14 fiscal year that provided nearly a $1 million increase in funding for Teacher’s Choice.
The landmark City Council program, initiated by the UFT more than 25 years ago, will reimburse educators — as determined by title — for the purchase of classroom supplies of their choice in the 2013-2014 school year.
The new reimbursements are:
$57 for all teachers;
$37 for social workers, school psychologists and guidance counselors;
$20 for school secretaries; and
$30 for lab specialists.
To be reimbursed, educators must save their receipts for purchases made between Aug. 1, 2013, and Feb. 28, 2014.
You may start shopping next thursday.

I ask bc i spend a lot of my money on basic supplies (copy paper, folders, pens, file folders, labels) bc we are provided with next to nothing.

I have to say, that is one thing my school is good with. They provide us with a lot of the "basic" supplies for the students.

I also make 70% of my copies at home on my own printer so i go through a ton of toner and copy paper. We are allowed 175 copies a week and they are closely cked and denied often. 175 copies when you have over 30 kids on your class is about 6 sheets. Thats maybe good for HW

Not a city teacher. upstate NY- we have to get many of our own supplies as well. The kids get lists of what they need to bring in but being in a economically disadvanteged district, they dont so we buy notebooks, pencils etc.
We have a 50 a week print quota and a code for the copier so they can monitor our copies.
I'm sure it's not easy to be a teacher in many places but getting SOMETHING is better than nothing IMO
