people stink
I was walking my neighbor's dog this morning (we help each other out). A neighbor down the way drives by and asks about the dog/breed/ etc. Then she says.... "oh we had to get rid of our dog."
Honestly, I don't remember what she said after that. The owners who let me adopt my cat were beside themselves when they had to giver her away. I wanted to comfort them and have sent them photos overtime so they know she is happy. And here this lady just "got rid" of her dog????
Life happens and adopting out is the last option, but "getting rid" of a pet is a cruel way to think of it.

I've known a few people who've gotten rid of their dog. I don't get it.
BUT some people look at pets as their family, but others look at them like nothing more than pets.
I adopted my cat right before he was going to a shelter. He had medical issues and the previous owners wanted to euthanize him (and he was maybe 3 at the time). So the vet hospital took him in, fixed him and then put him up for adoption.

Horrible! Our old neighbors did this. They'd adopt a dog, they'd be unruly and they wouldn't know how to/care enough to train them, and within a year or two they'd get rid of them. We saw them go through 3 dogs that way.  Fortunately for the dogs though, they went to better homes!

A person who can "get rid" of a pet for a simple reason shouldn't have it anyway. As long as the pet doesn't go into a kill shelter I think the pet is better off. Re-homing has to be to a better place. Maybe she had a legitimate reason for re-homing the dog and just phrased it that way during your brief conversation? If her dog got a better home, it is better off than in a home where it is not appreciated and not loved.

I know quite a few of those. One even went as far to say I'm pretty sure the new owners don't like my dog but oh well not my problem anymore. WTF

I think she really just doesn't value pets and truly meant it when she said she got rid of it.
