Walking
Is it really a "good" workout? I'm not looking to lose weight/tone up - just want to get in some regular exercise to keep my heart healthy. Does walking really get the job done? Any walkers out there? How far, how fast, how long, how often?
I got my new Sketchers GoWalk shoes all ready to go!
Thanks in advance

Re: Walking
When I go to the gym, this is usually what I do (on the treadmill).
I have read that as long as you are moving your arms in your workout (like you do when you're outside), you will lose weight. Too many people hold onto the machine for comfort.
I also have read that you can always add weights if you want to tone.
I should probably make more of an effort to walk outside though.

Walking
Walking is very good exercise. It's easy to do (you can virtually do it anywhere). It's low impact and your risk of injury is low. If you ever did want the calorie burning benefits just step up the intensity a little (speed walking is great). But to maintain your weight and keep yourself and your heart healthy its very good for you!!

Walking
yes! walking is great exercise. it's what our bodies are designed to do!
i remember reading in a medical/weight/health book that being a little over-weight and walking 30 minutes a day is healthier than being normal weight and not walking.
the beauty about walking is that it's almost free (good pair of shoes), you can do it almost anywhere, and you can increase or decrease the level.

Walking
Thanks ladies. I no longer have a gym membership (b/c I never went) so I've been walking outside for 30 min before dinner. Sometimes I alternate w/a workout video, but walking is just much more pleasant and less like "work"
