Dr. Huang at LIJ Developmental Ped
Has anyone had experience with this Dr.? My son has been diagnosed with ADHD by Dr. Alturu (sp?) but I would like to see another Dr. for a second opinion. I have been told that my son is complicated and that he also may suffer from sensory processing disorder.

Re: Dr. Huang at LIJ Developmental Ped
I work for the LIJ Health System and recently got an email at work about an ADHD program at LIJ. I am guessing this doctor may be affiliated. If you scroll down a bit, you will see where I posted about it.
I don't think you can go wrong with any of their doctors. I'm not saying that just because I work for the system, either.
I recently took DS to the allergist at Cohen's and the resident alone spent at least 45 minutes with us getting background info, before we even met with the doctor.
I feel like if I get 4-5 minutes alone with a regular doctor these days, that's a lot.

Re: Dr. Huang at LIJ Developmental Ped
Thanks for the responses. I took my son last Friday for the assessment to be in the ADHD program and they said he would be a good fit. The problem is its on Tuesday nights and I work on Tuesdays. It's also kind of far as I live in levittown...finally it's a little expensive. $70 for parent class and $70 for his class..so $140 a week.

Re: Dr. Huang at LIJ Developmental Ped
How long does it go for?
Insurance doesn't help at all?
You may need to weigh the pros and cons.
BTW, I commute from SS/Western Suffolk to Manhasset every day and it's really not that bad at all. 30 minutes w/ no traffic.
ETA: Maybe speak to them about the cost and see if there's any way to get it a little cheaper. Can family help with bringing him as well? Flex your schedule?

14 week program.
I thought about working around my schedule...that's not the biggest obstacle.
I have to find our about the insurance. She did say some ins. Companies reimburse.
Another problem I have is my husband works 3-11pm most weekdays and I have 5 yeAr old twins and a 3 year old daughter and the program does not offer babysitting.
I really want to do this but I have a lot to work out. I have not yet ruled it out.

Good luck.
Those are lots of obstacles to overcome.

My son has ADHD and goes to Dr Huang. She is great. She takes her time and lets him be him at the office.
We like her approach to medicine as well (only when academics or social are declining)
