DOE and license question

So I've heard stories that you can teach one year out of your license. I want to know if this is true.

Example: I have my common branch license in grades 1-6. So for one year I can teach Kindergarten or 7th grade.

I'm interviewing for a technology teacher position for 7th grade tomorrow.

Thanks!Chat Icon

Re: DOE and license question

I am 7-12 certified and taught 6th grade several times. Pretty sure it's allowed under NCLB.

ETA: What I heard, actually, was that you could go up a year or down a year. I never heard about a time limit, and as I said, I did 6th more than once and there was a woman with a common branch who taught 7th math for several years in a row. We always had the state and city all over us for performance issues but they never expressed issues with that.

Re: DOE and license question

It depends. My bro is in a district 75 school and has a birth through grade 2 special Ed license and has been teaching 18–21 yo for several years.
