Meet the teacher day
DS is entering 1st grade. I just sat this morning and re-read the letter that we received from his teacher to see that we bought all of his supplies and what he will need to bring with him for the first day of school. She mentioned checking her page on the school website for updates, so I checked there as well this morning. On the website she says that she is having meet the teacher day on Friday, the 31st. I had no idea the teachers did this and it was not mentioned in the letter we received from her last week, so we missed it. Will the school let me bring my son up one day next week so that I can show him where his classroom will be? He is shy and I know it will help him feel better to see it ahead of time. Why wouldn't she put this info in the letter mailed home?
TIA!

Re: Meet the teacher day
If your son doesn't have school on Tues and Wed then the district is holding two Supt. Conference days (meetings for teachers and staff). Most likely his teacher will be in meetings most of that time and won't be available to meet in the classroom. Building security is an issue as well.
This week I've noticed many cars in my children's elem school parking lot. Many teachers were setting up their classrooms all week, hence why she picked the 31st. Sorry you missed it.

Re: Meet the teacher day
The 31st was a Saturday this year. It was a Friday in 2012. Maybe the information on the website was from last year? I wouldn't worry too much about missing it. I took my older boys to meet their new teachers and plenty of students couldn't make it.

Sorry, I meant Friday, the 30th. It just would have been nice to have had the option of meeting her and being able to drop off some of his supplies so he doesn't have so much to carry the first day of school and he knows where to go when he gets off the bus without assistance. I am a little disappointed in the teacher for not putting it in the letter home too.

Meet the teacher day
She may not have known when she would be up at the school setting up her classroom which is why she did not put it in the original letter.
In our building a lot of the teachers stagger sending in the supplies. Maybe send some the first day and some the second day so it's not so much to carry for your son. They probably won't need tissues or wipes the first day if that is something she asked for.

It is definitely not meet the teacher at night. It turns out that I now found out the entire elementary school had this 'meet the teacher' day this past Friday for all students in all grades. It is also an opportunity for the children to bring in and drop off their supplies so they don't have so much to carry the first day. I received 2 letters from the school within the past 3 weeks. One of them being from the teacher, the other with the tag to fill out and attach to your child's backpack with their name and bus info on it. It is not mentioned on either letter, not on the homepage of the schools website (which I have been checking throughout the summer) and not on the school calendar that was sent in the mail. This is my oldest child and I have only lived in my neighborhood a couple of years, so we do not know many people. How was I supposed to know about this?

Meet the teacher day
I would call the school and say exactly that. They should have notified your formally. I am sure the teacher will be able to set aside 10 minutes to meet your son.
