Do you do anything special to care for a dog nail that groomer nipped the vein on?

The bleeding had stopped when DH picked him up but my dog's a licker and I want to make sure it doesn't get infected or anything.

Doggie has always hated nail trims (needs to be muzzled for them) and doesn't even like us to gently touch his paws.

I feel so awful for him. the last time, the groomer had not cut a few nails so DH mentioned when he dropped him off to make sure he got all his nails....and the guy thought we were complaining that they weren't short enough (even though DH explained that's not what he meant). So I hope he didn't try to cut them extra-short and that's why he nipped him. Chat Icon

So, I'm trying to prevent him from licking his paws.

Anything else I should be doing?

TIA

One of ours tore her nail once and the vet just said keep it as clean as possible. We have neosporin for that.

Can you find a groomer that uses a dremel instead of a clipper? It took a while for our dogs to get used to it but it's much better for avoiding injury. Also, the quick recedes each time the nails are cut so if you want them shorter, go back in a week or two for another small trim.

We just bought a dremel because our dog hates the clippers so much and her squirming has left her with the quick cut numerous times. I find the dremel easier and more effective with her.
