Jet Blue offers special accommodations for families with autistic children
My friend's DH is a pilot with Jet Blue. She had a link on her FB today that I thought might be helpful to some moms on this board.
Jet Blue offers special accommodations for families with autistic children. Flying is not easy for me as an ADULT, I can't even imagine what it's like for a special needs child.
Anyway, hopefully other airlines jump on board with this service... My older DS is not autistic but has a Complex Movement Disorder and (undiagnosed) sensory issues. It is so nice to know that an airline is looking out for special needs children & their families.
Link to read about how Jet Blue provides special assistance to autistic children

Re: Jet Blue offers special accommodations for families with autistic children
They offered this program at Logan in Boston and we participated last year before our trip to Disney and it was the BEST thing for DS. Not only did they give us a practice run, they privately escorted us on the day we flew for real through security and waited with us before we boarded to ensure there was never an unaccompanied moment where we might be confronted by personnel about DS's behavior. Above and beyond doesn't even describe jetBlue's involvement in helping us have a successful flying experience with DS.

Just wanted to note that you can receive special accommodations on all airlines, not just Jetblue. You ask for a medical pre-board at the gate, and you can board, and get settled before everyone else gets on. Also, at security, you can explain your circumstances to the TSA agent at the beginning the line, and they will put you in a special one.
