Re: rocky point

I like rocky point. I know several families that bought their first homes there and have stayed. Some of the homes are really small, it started out as a seasonal bungalow community. I can't speak personally about the schools but like most disctricts on LI it's probably good.
I shop in rocky point pretty often because it's close to my town and we don't have many stores.
For me the main drawback is it takes a while to get to the expressway because it's so far north.
Good luck!

I live in Rocky Point and have for the past 8 years, I really love it here. I have a daughter in second grade and a son in pre-k in the area and I absolutely love the district and don't plan on moving anytime soon. I agree with the pp it is a distance to the expressway

Re: rocky point

My grandfather had a bungalow out there and my family spent our summers there. I love it out east! I always tell my DH that someday, if we don't move south and we stay in NY, then I want to move to Rocky Point.

I like that area. Have a relative who lives right near water
Not sure I would find that suitable to live - roads are narrow and windy. Not a lot of yard. Snow is a pain in winter. That sorta thing. I had loved a home there when I was looking - but it was way up on a hill and yard behind sloped down.

Re: rocky point

I had to go there a few times to meet with clients and I always used to get lost on those windy narrow roads. I also was always afraid my car was going to get hit because parking was limited.

There seems like there's lots of stuff within driving distance however (stores, restaurants, I even found a Starbucks but don't think it was in the town).

Starbucks mount Sinai I bet. Which is next town over. Like you, I can find a Starbucks or panera in any town. Chat Icon

Re: rocky point

We are currently house hunting in Rocky Point. Our son has some special needs and the school district is excellent for him. However, we have found our search to be frustrating. We are targeting areas of Rocky Point that are flat and are more in a development. There is not much inventory in our price range. When we expanded our search outside of our desired neighborhoods we encountered narrow streets, small homes and sloping backyards. We are being patient thoughChat Icon

We just bought in RP. We love it here. DH grew up in Sound Beach so it was a no brainier that we wanted to stay in this area to be close to friends and family. We have a ranch on a flat 1/2 acre which is rare for RP. It started as a bungalow community but it's expanded a lot, and yes the roads are hilly and windy but that's common for the north shore. The schools are great, we have access to tons of local shopping plus being close to the east end is nice. We definitely plan to stay in this area long term.
