Yoga Certification?
Anyone here have any recommendations regarding Yoga teacher training?
I currently practice a few styles of Hot Yoga and I know that Yoga Oasis in Woodbury does training there.
Does anyone have experience in either hot or other yoga certifications? I have been thinking about becoming a teacher for a long time and would love any advice regarding school and teaching yoga as a career.
Thanks!!

Re: Yoga Certification?
I go to Yoga Flex in Commack. The owners got their certifications with Bikram and Jimmy Barkan.
I really like the Barkan yoga. (He was a student of Bikram.) I know a couple of the students I attend class with have attended his training.
Here is a link to his website in case you want to check him out also:
Jimmy Barkan Training
I also take yoga classes with a Dharma trained teacher. She got her first yoga teacher training certificate from Sayville Hot Yoga. I have never attended this studio so I don't know if they currently have a program and if it's any good.
*I'm not a teacher. I have young children and cannot travel too far away, but I hope that some day I get to take a training program. If I do get to do it, I would really like to study with Sri Dharma Mittra in NYC. (It's not hot yoga so I didn't link you too him above.)

Re: Yoga Certification?
I follow some blogs of a few people who went to teacher training for Bikram (and given the recent hot water he's gotten himself into, don't really stand by him). I can FM you the link to my blog because they are all listed on there.
I go to Hot Yoga Massapequa by the way. All the teachers are very approachable; I bet they'd talk to you if you have questions. I also believe some of them work at multiple studios.
ETA: I forgot about this site, but it has a message board on it and I believe she was also taught by Bikram.

Re: Yoga Certification?
Thank you very much for both of your responses.
I found the barkan method as well. I actually go to YogaFlex as well. I have young children also and a part time job, so I don't know if I can do two weeks away right now either.
I have to do some research on salary for an instructor, just to get an idea of how quickly it would take to pay back my investment.
Thank you for the links to the hot yoga info. I will definetely be checking all that out!!

Re: Yoga Certification?
Good luck.
I've taken classes with Pam at my studio and the other one who owns Yoga Flex (her name escapes me).
Keep us posted if you end up going for it!!
