vacuum without a beater bar or option to turn off
I need a vacuum that I can turn off the beater bar. Apparently my current Hoover is ruining my rugs...I need something fast but don't want to spend a lot. Thanks!

upright or canister ?
My Electrolux canister has a power brush that I can turn off to use on bare floors or my oriental rugs. It also comes with a separate brush attachment for bare floors.

Thanks but I think upright ...they just seem so much easier to deal with.. I really only want to spend about 150 at the most because I already have a hoover that I use on my carpets.

I have this one: Shark Navigator
If you use a 20% off coupon it comes to around $160. It has a switch to turn the beater on or off. I've had mine for a year and a half and am still happy with it, but I don't tend to spend a lot on vacuums, so I've never had a *really* good one to compare it to.

I am very happy with my Shark Navigator, which has the option to turn off the beater. Its $200 at BBB (so $160 with coupon) but I saw it on amazon & walmart's websites for less.
