Marathon diet
So DH is running the NYC marathon next weekend. I want to make him super healthy (carb loaded) meals this week as well as HYDRATE him (he tends to forget this lil tid bit!). Any advice? What meals do you suggest for the 6 days leading up the the marathon (besides pasta the night before)?

No new foods especially the day or two before. Light healthy meals. I'm running too. Good luck to him. I can not wait.

if chia isn't something new, i would suggest chia fresca the days leading up to the marathon.
this is what i have when i'm planning a long run.
chia fresca is a very simple drink: chia seeds, water, lemon and lime juice, plus a little sweetener.
let the chia seeds soak for at least a couple of hours before you start drinking.
there's a recipe here: http://www.nomeatathlete.com/tarahumara-pinole-chia-recipes/

chia has no taste. it tastes like lemon/limeade. the chia seeds soak up a lot of water and lighten in color.
the seeds do sink, so you have to stir before taking a drink. you don't really notice the seeds as you drink it.
the beauty of the chia seed is that once they've absorbed water, they help create a lining in the stomach and digestive track that helps protect you from anything harsh you might eat. the hydrated seeds also release the water slowly as they're digested (kind of like time-released hydration), this is why it's so wonderful right before running.
i start drinking it days before my long runs. everyone in my family likes it, so it's not hard to make the teenager drink it as well.
