Buying pants...
i have short legs so i have trouble finding pants. i went shopping today and all i saw was pants slightly below the waist. call me cheap, but i can't see spending 89.00 for pants then paying 12.00 to have them shortened.

Re: Buying pants...
Alot of places sell pants for people with shorter legs. I go to Ann Taylor Loft in the petite section and the pants are just the right length for me. (I'm 5'2)

Re: Buying pants...
I bought a pair of jeans today that are WAY too long on me -- but I liked them a lot otherwise. I am plus sized so I got them from Avenue -- and I had a coupon so they were $54 jeans that I got for only $28 -- so for me it's worth it to have to get them hemmed. I'll try and go to my alterations lady tomorrow.
But I don't know if I'd pay $90 for a pair of jeans that don't fit right -- unless of course you know that they will get a lot of use and your weight is most likely not going to change and so you can get 3-4 years out of them. For that I'd definately spend a bit more.

Re: Buying pants...
I find Ann Taylor loft to have a rather long "petite" length.
I find that NY and Co. has a very "true" petite length pant.

Re: Buying pants...
I just had two piars hemmed and it cost me $22.00. I mean I got the pants for a good deal...and they are actually a part of a new suit I bought, but I hate it too.
Usually the petite section in Ann Taylor is ok for me.

Usually the petite section in Ann Taylor is ok for me. wow! I have never paid more than $8 to have suit pants or jeans hemmed. you should go somewhere else.... 1 dry cleaner I go to is $7 and another near my job is $8.

Doesn't banana hem them for you if you pay full price?
yes- I am not sure if you have to have a Credit card or not- but that might be just to get the sale stuff hemmed for free

Re: Buying pants...
BR petites are good---length for me is usually perfect--i'm 5'1. If you pay full price or have a BR luxe card, the hemming is free.

i have the same problem, no matter what i buy- petite or regular, i have to get them shortened... sigh....
me too and I noticed this season the pants are even longer than normal. I tried on no less than 10 pairs of petite jeans at The Gap last week and all were long enough to wrap around my foot. Yesterday, at Ann Taylor Loft 4 of the pants I tried on were waaaaay too long. What is going on this year????

how tall are you? i bought these petite twill pants at ATL and the length is great. again, i am 5' 2".
eta: i have found that you have to try on more than one pair in the same size and style as the cut is NEVER consistent.
for casual pants, try aeropostale. they have short, reg and long lenths.Image Attachment(s):

I went shopping for slacks this past weekend and I found a lot at T.J. Maxx. Good brands, and hey were like $16.

Re: Buying pants...
I have this problem too.
I usually wear really big heels, but some days I just don't want to get all dressed. I want to be comfy some days!
I bought 2 pairs of pants at The Limited in short. They fit ok.
I feel that petite pants are too short and also cut smaller in the hips/thigh area. So I can't wear petite.
But if a store sells Short as well, I'll at least try them on along with a Regular pair just to compare lengths.
I've even considerred buying a cheap sewing machine to hem my own pants.

Re: Buying pants...
I'm 5'7" and still have to SHORTEN every pair of pants I buy. I just have really short legs (inseam 29") and a long torso. I pay $10 to have them shortened, so I usually factor that into a price when I buy a pair of pants or jeans. Would you believe that even Old Navy "short" are still too long for me
