Blood workup results: So Disappointed.

So I wanted to share with you guys. I was freaking out when I got the news. I'm still stress to no end. I feel like the rug has been ripped right out from under me.

I spoke with my dr. after getting my day 3 blood work done on Friday. So it does't look good. My AMH is low and FSH level is 19.43. I'm so devastated about this news.

I have a meeting with my RE on Wednesday to discuss where we can go with this, if we can go anywhere at all. Right away my insurance which was going to cover my first 3 cycles while not cover anything. I'll cross that bridge when I get there.

Thanks for the talk Phyllis.

Anyone who's gone through this please feel free to share your story. I need some sort of encouragement.

if you guys got this far, thanks for listening. Chat Icon

thanks Jenn, I too am 40, that's why I'm panicking. I'm starting to look into alternative ways of lowering my fsh, if it's at all possible. Do you know if she under the supervision of dr or did she treat herself?

Re: Blood workup results: So Disappointed.

I had a consult with a different RE last week (even though I knew I wasn't planning to switch). He explained that FSH levels can vary month to month. He told me that, while we have fewer "good eggs" as we age, there is always the possibility that the month you do IVF, a good one might be in the mix. It makes sense when you think about it; it kind of explains how people who have an FSH in the 40s/50s go on to have healthy pregnancies.

Don't get too caught up with FSH. My FSH was high when I had a successful IVF last year. My FSH was markedly lower when I had IVF this year, but it was not a successful cycle.

One of the things my RE has me doing is taking 600mg of CoQ10 daily. I also take Royal Jelly in Honey each day. Both are thought to help with our issues.

From everything I've read, those numbers are really good predictors of ovarian response (number of eggs) and not particularly reliable predictors for pregnancy rate. Your doc will probably advise you to go straight to IVF, but with no previous IVF failure in your history, those levels don't mean as much as it seems.

It's hard to hear. I cried when they retested my AMH in May and the number dropped again. DOR is scary. Chat Icon

I got the name from her of vitamins shes taking Fertilaid, ovaboost, fertile CM and he is also taking CoQ10 for egg quality boost....i have not been taking any of these except the coq10 which my current dr says helps eggs quality BUT i was on the fertilaid alone back in april and i think march too and i had my first day 3 bloods done and my FSH at that time was a 4.8 - i stopped taking fertilaid when i added in clomid and hcg shot but im gonna take them this cycle again since ill be traveling when i O ~ So def check them out and like other posters said dont worry too much about the fsh u can lower it!Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

that's new information for me. I've been driving myself nuts looking for more information online. I didn't know the numbers vary. I'm sorry you didn't have a successful cycle this year. I just started taking the CoQ10 for the past week. I'm getting the royal jelly in the mail. I also need to take Vitamin D, my levels are low. Thanks for the information. Chat Icon

I was thinking the same thing, that's the first thing he would tell me. I also think, he may tell me to use a donor egg. Yes, DOR is certainly scary, I'm now adjusting to my world being shaken up. I plan on looking into trying to change these numbers if it's at all possible.

Thanks for sharing… have you been using any vitamins?

Blood workup results: So Disappointed.

Jenn, thanks for posting the names of the vitamins, I'm determined to try to change my numbers. I do plan on start taking most of vitamins, I already started taking COq10. I think my biggest thing will be to to start getting myself some activity for at least 45 mins a day. I'm going to do what's within my power. I have to deal with this.

Re: Blood workup results: So Disappointed.

Don't lose hope yet ang!!!! Ive been looking into the supplements also. DHEA and Royal Jelly are also good ones when ovarian function/AMH are involved.

After doing so much research, I started...

-L-Arginine (Promoting a healthy environment for implantation; May extend fertility for women over 40
-Royal Jelly (May improve the number and quality of oocytes; believed to promote a healthy immune system, reduce inflammation)
-Levothyroxine (prescribed from RE for possible hypothyroid)
-Selenium (for positive thyroid antibodies)
-Baby Aspirin
-Prenatal Vit
-Fish Oil with Omega 3s
-PABA (Antioxidant/eradicates free radicals)
-CoQ10 (thought to be great for improving egg health and egg quality, especially in older women)
-Vit D
-Vit B Complex
-DHEA (thought to improve ovarian function and egg quality)
-Melatonin (at night) (antioxidant, strenthens immune system, and thought to help control the timing and release of female reproductive hormones)

one cup of decaf green tea at night (antioxidant)

Of course...ask your RE before taking supplements Chat Icon

Good Luck Ang!!!!

Re: Blood workup results: So Disappointed.

I was 30 when my fsh came back high and my amh low.

Even though it doesn't work for most high fsh people, we tried clomid. Got pregnant the 1st month on it. Chat Icon

your numbers don't seem bad to me so don't lose out hope. Good luck!

Re: Blood workup results: So Disappointed.

Hang in there girlie!
You will find a huge support system here on the IF board. There are many of us with DOR here and we all take care of eachother.
It is devastating news. I was diagnosed with DOR at 31 with an AMH of .28 and low FSH but high estrogen. Basically the high estrogen was supressing my FSH making it look low but it was actually terrible.
I am the kind of person who fights back if they are told they can't do something. I was told that my chances of having a baby will be very, very difficult coupled with endometriosis and one blocked fallopian tube. Bad news all came in one month. The girls here are AMAZING. I immediately received FM's with different diet and vitamin protocols along with research links. I got my strength from so many of the ladies here!

Do me a favor and research, research, research!! Empower yourself with information.
I am not pregnant YET but have been able to get pregnant so my Dr sees it as a good start!

**I immediately went gluten free and dairy free. I have some cheese here and there but not much. Some believe it lowers inflammation and helps to balance female hormones.
**I began acupuncture to increase blood flow to the uterus and help with hormones. After two months on acu, my estrogen, FSH and LH all stabilized and lowered to normal ranges.
**I take coQ10- not a high dose but take it everyday.
**I take micronized DHEA for my eggies. Hoping it will improve quality. Have not started an IVF cycle yet but hear it takes 6 weeks to really work.
**Prenatal + extra folic acid, B12 and B6 for a MTHFR gene mutation that I have.
**Fish oil! Very good for blood quality and implantation.
**Royal Jelly. I take the one mixed with honey in a jar from vitamin shoppe. Taste is not bad at all. I take 1T at night and then drink a glass of room temp water.

You have to understand that AMH is fairly new and disputed. Many Drs link it to reserve being low. The Drs explained it to me as this.. we are born with millions of eggs. Our bodies use up the best quality/healthiest eggs the younger we are. The older we get, our body has fewer quality eggs and a lower reserve thus having chromosomal issues leading to no pregnancy. My RE said that I most likely produce 2-3 good quality eggs the whole year. Of course he can't prove that but I have had multiple chemicals so it may be true. My goal is to improve the quality of my eggs the best I can with these supplements. I will most likely be out of eggs by the time I am 40 so I am hoping to have my family asap. Drs do not believe AMH can improve- only get worse the more eggs you lose. However, you will find many girls here on the board that improved their numbers. My AMH went up to .76 within a few months. It can be done! Do not focus on the numbers. Focus on improving your body the best you can!

Re: Blood workup results: So Disappointed.

Ladies I cannot thank you enough for all the advice and support. I'm at that point where researching is just a big thing for me now. I have an appointment with my RE today to figure out an approach in moving forward.

I have no intention of giving up. Going to fight this thing all the way. Chat Icon Chat Icon
