Holy cow! I finished my first marathon!!!!!!!!!
So I did it!!! I ran my first marathon yesterday. I did it with my dh, which was awesome, as he really motivated me towards the end. I felt great up until around mile 19. I hit the wall at that point. Early too! It sucked and especially since it was kind of early. I only trained up to 18 miles so I'm thinking that was why. But I got through it. It's so true how they say the last 6 miles are a different race. Holy crap were they hard. I'm not going to lie. It was extremely difficult; more than I imagined possible. But with the help of my husband and my own willpower and determination, I got through them- all 6.2!!! I was in so much pain at that point- had pain in my groin which then in turn caused problems with my upper leg, and two huge blisters (sorry tmi) on the bottom of both feet, which felt like rug burn every single time my foot landed! It hurt like hell. Something as simple as a blister! That and next time I will wear body glide!!!! Chafing sucks!!!! But the last 6.2 was seriously a blur and I was so determined to finish. I needed to include walking intervals at that point but I'm so thrilled to have finished. And can someone tell me what the shooting pain you get up and down your legs is?!?! It felt like I was being electrocuted!! Lol. It was so weird. More uncomfortable than painful, but still weird. I hope someone knows what I'm talking about!! I have no idea what that's about!
I'm so freaking proud of myself. I'm seriously on cloud 9!! Despite the pain and soreness, I'm already dreaming of my next marathon!!!!!!!!! Lol I think I just may be crazy enough to do more. The feeling I got crossing the finish line was incredible and one of the best moments of my entire life. It's really is such a huge accomplishment and aside from childbirth the most memorable and wonderful experiences ever!!!!!! I'm so happy I stuck with the grueling training and never gave up. The pride I feel from finishing is indescribable!!! I'm sure you marathoners know what I'm talking about!!!! Anyone thinking of doing a marathon- do it!!!!!! It's hard and the training is seriously half the battle, but it was so worth it in the end!!! It was completely worth it!!!!
I just have to say it, but holy cow, I'm a marathoner!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! My official time was 4:48:38. I was so happy finishing under 5!! I originally wanted 4:30, but since I was injured and only trained to 18, I didn't want such an aggressive goal. I really am thrilled to have just finished!!!!! And it gives me a chance to set a new goal!!

Congrats! It sounds like it was really hard at times, but to quote Tom Hanks in a "League of Their Own," sometimes "The hard is what makes it great."
Not that I would know! LOL. Never have run a marathon or come close to it, and I am pretty sure I never will.
But it's an amazing accomplishment!

But it's an amazing accomplishment! lol I swear "hard" isn't even the word. I can't sugar coat it, the last 6 miles were torture! Pure torture. So many times I thought of just collapsing on the grass. And it hits you like a ton of bricks too; all of a sudden, out of no where. I was fine until mile 19. But I'm so amazed I finished (still days later)! I've had this natural high all week.
Thanks again everyone! Part of me is relieved, but also sad that it's over. I trained for so long.

Re: Holy cow! I finished my first marathon!!!!!!!!!
Kristin...my time a few years ago was 4:48:48...only 10 seconds apart, crazy! I'm so proud of you...and YES I know that feeling in your legs...its so hard to describe...I said it felt like my legs were constantly going down the drop of a roller coaster (like that feeling you get in your stomach but in your legs) But yes, electrocution is also a good description lol

Re: Holy cow! I finished my first marathon!!!!!!!!!
CONGRATULATIONS!! Awesome job, sub-5 is amazing for a first marathon! And you had things against you being injured and getting sick prior. You SHOULD be proud!!
I have done 3 marathons, I thought all were difficult, but my time was 15-16 minutes faster than the previous for each one. So you probably will crush your time next one as the experience definitely helps!!
Enjoy the accomplishment!!
