10 year old girl Christmas gifts
My DD wants $150 Uggs and an iPod touch which is $250 and clothes from Forever 21. She also wants her hair highlighted.
She is 10, not 18!?!
Luckily she has divorced parents, so we can each swing one biggish gift, but my budget is still not that high! Especially if I want to get her some clothes and some smaller things.
Am I the only one with a 10 yo who is going on 18?

Nope, My niece is 9 was asking for an iPad. She wants a pair of uggs as well and ask my sister to get her clothes from J Crew $$$
Whats worse is that she has a little sister (4 yrs) who is also asking for uggs for Christmas, and they go to dear old aunt because I can never say no.

I would explain budgeting to your ten year old. She is absolutely old enough to understand how much things cost. I would tell her that she can have one of the two from you if that is in the cards for this year, and if it is not, then I would be honest about it. I have wanted uggs for a while -15 years and this year I got my first pair. I am an adult. See if they have any in her size at 6pm.com. It is the discount site for zappos.

Exactly. Let's not create another generation of entiltled youngsters with no work ethic.

I think the OP was more asking if she is the only one with a child who is asking for more mature things.
There so much new technology that kids seem to be growing up fast these days. And to the OP you can still spoil your child during the holidays and birthdays while instilling work ethics and morals.

My 10 yo asked for a laptop, an iPhone, uggs. We. Set some pretty realistic expectations, and I also realizes that she needs to understand the concept of how much things cost. I sat down with her an showed her my budget for Christmas for everyone -- it changed her perspective a bit. This year will be about those less fortunate in our house, we need to reset what this holiday is really about.

The big ticket items for 10 year olds have changed. When I was that age I probably wanted a tv and a 10 speed bike. I also remember wanting the Barbie Dream House which was pretty pricey by yesterday's standards. Our parents also probably had very similar concerns.

Ummm, yes, I think that is where the OP was going. You very much can spoil your kids during the holidays and STILL raise hardworking children.
But yes, my kids are definitely asking for mature gifts this year too.
