Anyone not a fitness/diet junky and then just changed?

HOW do you get in this mindset?

I set my alarm daily to go to the gym and never make it out of the house.

Going out after work never works either because once I'm home, I'm home and I want to spend time with DS obviously.

I am all dressed right now to go to yoga and DS trapped me again. I know if I leave he'll have a meltdown and I feel super guilty.

I thought of trying to find a "buddy" but then I know I would feel guilty if I didn't end up going.

Help!

Even if I were to lose 10-15 lbs. I'd be thrilled with that.

(And working out at home never works for me either Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon ).

I always have been a fitness nut, but am human & even I at times don't want to....but I force myself. I've never left the gym afterwards regretting it.

However, all the clients I've had & even friends & family...I constantly questioning their progress & motivating them, because it take a good month to really set the habit.

Make it apart of your schedule; find the most opportune time to do it (even if that means 4:30 am like me sometimes, it stinks getting up, but i often push harder there because i could have otherwise been sleeping, & also because other times during the day might not happen & I always feel guilty taking away from family time/activites.
Set short & long term realistic goals, rewards, & keep track of measurable progress (time put in, learning new exercises, trying new recipes/foods, tape measurements, etc) this way you can look back on how far you've come.

Once it becomes apart of your routine, it's about the same time you start to feel different, then you start to see the external rewards, & you're hooked!!!

For some it's 100% jump in, but for others simply 30min 4x a week & cutting out soda or take-out is a start. Do what works for you, & then add as you progress & desire more results.

Ultimately, you have to truly want it too. Ask yourself why you want to change & what youll gain for leasing a healthier lifestyle.

I always found that finding a class or two that you like is a great way to start out. All you have to do is get there, that's it, then someone else does the thinking for you!Chat Icon I teach 5am fitness classes and whenever there is a new face I make sure to learn their name, and engage them, and make sure to tell them I'll see them next week. That way there is some accountability to show up each week!

Hiring a trainer is also a good option - though much more expensive, but if you look at it terms of something else you are wasting money on, i.e.. junk food/candy/$5 lattes, it doesn't seem so bad.

Limit your excuses. For you, it seems early morning might work best. Lay out everything the night before, clothes, gym bag, sneakers, all ready to go. If you can be consistent for 2 weeks, waking up gets so much easier.

It's all about what you REALLY want to do. Make a plan and put it into action. Go buy an old school marble notebook and Start a journal/log of your progress. Write down each week what your goal is. Then each day right down what you did to achieve it. Did you workout? How did your workout feel? Did you eat well? What will you do the same/change tomorrow? Hold yourself accountable. Writing it down makes it tangible, and for me, that's what always works best. Take it day by day, week by week. Don't say I want to lose 10-15lbs, say I want to lose 1.5-2lbs this week. Small victories lead to greater ones.

I believe you have to. Just like brushing your teeth & showering. It needs to be done & you never regret it afterwards. Once it's apart of your day, it becomes routine.

Everyone has laps, but it's important to not beat yourself & spiral away from all your hard work, just get back into it again.

sometimes ive actually made it to the gym and then have just sat on the weight bench until i decided to leave... but then i think, i was dressed, i made it there, and there i was, being so lazy i couldn't even get on the equipment. I realize that and the next time i go, i just say the harder i work the faster i can leave. i try started to work out slowly on the treadmill and would do 30 minutes no less. than i got into trying to do 5ks. So it pushed me to actually start going longer because i couldnt do it in 30 but that was my new goal.. so i'd go 45 min instead u know? and by then i was getting so in shape and faster that it was more fun and rewarding. Now I have DD and haven't exercised in about 2 years!!! It's terrible. I'm so fat and out of shape. I used to run a 5k like 3x a week on top of other exercise. now i cant make it up my stairs without feeling winded and hurt lol. so my advice is this. Just get started any way you can. any 5 to 10 minutes is progress and will begin to grow into something bigger. maybe do it before ds wakes up or before u come home to him that way u never really have to "leave" him to do it. I dont know. i thought id jump right back into exercise. i didnt realize how tough it is having a child. its so emotional and you're already tired and lazy. i still havent figured it out. sorry.

I know how you feel. I used to be very active/fit and a runner, I ran at least 4 miles a day, at least 6 days a week, with longer runs on weekends. Even ran a half marathon too. Now I don't really exercise at all, at least when it was warm out I used to be able to go and take walks at least on my lunch break during work and on the weekends. I am struggling to get out of bed in the morning and tired/taking care of DS when I get home at night. When the new year comes I have to get strict again about my eating, at least it is one thing I can do to offset the lack of activity. I know this didn't help at all but just wanted to say I can relate!

Me. But then my dr. told me I was obese according to my BMI. I was winded going up stairs, had pain every day just existing. Something had to change. So I decided to join an all women's gym with classes with a friend. Another friend already was a member. I like the accountability of having people expect me to be there. At first I dragged myself there, and panted through each class. I was determined to at least go 3x a week. Now, 3 months later I am pissed when I can't get there 5 days a week. I am addicted to how good I feel after I leave. I NEVER EVER thought I would say that. EVER.

I had to hire a personal trainer. Prior, I would go the gym, do a little bit and be done. Now I am totally hooked. Its expensive, but the changes I have seen in how I look, in my flexibility and strength are amazing. I am so hooked..My workouts are so intense and I love it. I lost just under 20 lbs since the end of September.

I've thought about hiring a trainer, but then I want to find someone who can show me stuff so I am comfortable in continuing on my own. Not just routines they like to do that I will never continue, especially in public.

I'm going to get back into it once the holidays are over.

I know the gym I go to has a trainer that does a group training every half hour or something like that and I've thought about that as motivation too.

I never expected to enjoy eating well and exercising. It was always a job, an obligation, a chore. I didn't expect that motivation would somehow come to me, or that there would be some internal fire that would make it easy.

I still don't have that magical motivation that everyone wants but over the years I've been healthy, I don't look at this as negatively as I used to. Its up to me to keep it interesting so I continue with my exercise and good eating habits.

I joined a gym a couple months back for the first time, and I'm surprised how much I like it. I was away this weekend, eating differently than I normally would, and I don't like how bloated I am/feel. I want to get to the gym but I just don't have time. I never thought I'd think about such things. But there it is.
