Cabergoline- Anyone on it- Prolactin is high
Normal Prolactin is under 24. In February I went for an MRI bc mine was 37. No pituitary tumors. My RE didn't think I needed meds bc it was only slightly high and I didn't have a tumor. I also O on my own.
So since IUI and IVFs are not working I asked for more tests. Only thing wrong, out of 20 vials of blood was Prolactin came back at 30 and 30 again while fasting. So RE is putting me on Cabergoline. From my research and from the pamphlet that comes from CVS it says it is usually taken twice a week but some Drs work up to that amount. My instructions on the bottle was take 1/2 of a pill once a week. I thought that was strange and was like really what is half of a pill gonna do a week?
Any experience? Anyone on it? Symptoms? How often do you take it? Did you see your Prolactin levels decrease? Do you think a level of 30 is effecting me with all my BFNs? Just looking for answers since we can't find anything else wrong.

No experience with it, but go by what your doctor is telling you. It seems that the level is slightly high and he doesn't want to have you on a full dose right away. Likely you have to work your way up to a full dose, they will probably check your levels again after being on this low doses for a bit - you might not need that higher one.

I have never heard of this. I wish you had more answers! I also agree with Jess.. maybe your RE prefers you on a lower dose bc you are slightly elevated. Hoping this can regulate everything. I really feel that if one thing in your body is off it can off set many other things.

Thanks for replying. I been researching it. If its very high it can mean pituitary tumors. I had an MRI in March to rule that out. Hopefully the meds help to regulate something. Who knows. Now I'm wondering about my thyroid. If I EVER get AF I'll go in to talk to my RE about the Prolactin and ask my 100 questions.

I went on Cabergoline when I was at risk for hyperstimming last year. It was just a 7 day dose (or close to) and I don't recall any side effects. I didn't hyerstim, though, and I felt so much better once I went on it! GL!
