easy but really good Hors d'oeuvre recipes needed
Im hosting a Christmas get together for 6-8 people. We are doing hors d'oeuvres and drinks.
So far I am doing:
Slow cooker cocktail meatballs
Pigs in a blanket w/ hot mustard
candied bacon
Shrimp and cucumber salad
homemade salsa and chips
olives
I always do a cheese and charcuterie plate because its yummy and easy. But trying to figure out something different.
Anyone have any hors dourve recipes that are make ahead or really quick to throw together? But really good? I get home from work that evening and will have an hour and a half to get everything together and make myself look presentable.
Thanks!

This is going to sound like I am a cream cheese freak, but here goes:
Chili bake-- Take 1 block of cream cheese at room temp, and spread it in a pie plate. Take 1 can of chili (I use TJ's veg chili, but any kind works) and dump it on top. Take 1 bag of shredded cheddar cheese and dump it on top. Put it in the microwave or oven and cook until cheese melts. Serve with chips. Sounds kind of gross but ppl love it!
Red pepper jelly dip Spread a block of room temp cream cheese on a plate and spread red pepper jelly on top. Serve with crackers.
I usually throw some store bought hummus and vegs on a platter too! :)

Haha actually Im sure thats really good and it seems easy.
The pepper jelly and cream cheese is something my mom made for every party growing up. Maybe I could do that with wheat thins. But last time I tried to make it I had to go to 4 supermarkets to find pepper jelly and never found it. No one at waldbaums, stop and shop, or king kullen knew what it was! trader joes didn't have it. But that was before fairway was close by and I think wild by nature would carry it. So maybe I'll try again! :)

Check out homegoods for the jelly. I can't remember where I found it last year but I remember having to try a few places. I saw on pinterest to cut the cream cheese diagonally and then put the long ends together to make it look like a christmas tree. With the jelly on top and a star cut out of a pepper it was so cute!

One of the first hors d'oeuvres to go at our parties are blue cheese stuffed dates. You can prepare ahead of time n serve at room temp, or wrap with slightly precooked bacon and finish in oven.

Re: easy but really good Hors d'oeuvre recipes needed
I think the mini phyllo cups in the freezer section (Athens brand is the one I always get) are SO useful for quick and easy hors d'ourves that also look a bit elegant/fancy for a party.
I often do "brie bites" -- put a dab of seedless raspberry jam in the phyllo cup, add a little cube of brie, top with a pecan half and bake at 425 degrees for 5-8 minutes until cheese is melted and bubbly.
I've also done the phyllo cups with goat cheese topped with tomato (bake and then top with a chopped fresh herb like dill, basil).
I am sure there are probably a ton of recipes on the website for Athens mini phyllo cups!
I also think homemade cheese puffs are easy to make (I like Ina Garten's recipe, and I also have a really good WW recipe, believe it or not!). You can make them in advance, freeze them, and then pop them in the oven frozen to reheat. They are delicious with a glass of champagne!
I always make baked clams that come out really well, if your family likes seafood. I sautee finely chopped onion (about 1/4 of a large onion), garlic (6 cloves), and fresh parsley (few tsps.) in 6 TB olive oil. Then remove from heat and mix in 1 cup plain dried breadcrumbs, 1 lb chopped clams with juice (I just buy 3 cans, I think they are about 6.5 oz, and I usually use juice from 2 cans and drain the third). Then taste for sesasonings (add salt, pepper if needed) and squeeze fresh lemon over the top. Fill the little foil clam tins with the mixture and top with fresh grated parm. You can make these a day in advance and then just bake the day of at 350 degrees for 25-30 minutes. Total crowd pleaser!

thanks for the suggestions!! I like the phyllo cup ideas. That baked clam recipe sounds great, but Im not sure who in this group does and does not eat seafood (its all colleagues of my husband). Although I am already doing 1 shrimp thing. Thanks everyone!

Trader Joe's is carrying pepper jelly right now! My aunt also makes hers from scratch... no idea how to do it, but it is possible...

Almond stuffed dates wrapped in bacon.
You stuff an almond inside a date. Cut bacon in thirds. Wrap a piece around each date and secure with toothpick. Sprinkle with brown sugar and bake at 375 for 15-20mins til bacon is cooked and browned. Always a big hit.
