Teach me how to highlight and contour

I've recently been intrigued with the method of contouring and highlighting to accetuate facial features and sculpt. I'm pretty solid on WHERE to contour and highlight, but not so sure of exactly which products to use, what brushes to use, and how to blend. Can anyone who is familair with this give me some tips?

It depends upon your face shape, but these are the guidelines. I feel like I have really stepped up my make up game with contouring. I use the too faced naked face palette and love it a lot.

I have an oblong face shape and I also contour my nose. Here is a guide for that too.

The woman who runs this blog did a great series on face shapes last month so you can go back in her history to find the one that works for your particular face shape.

I also think the types of brushes you use to apply the make up really have a dramatic impact on how well you can contour. I use circular motion rather than a swiping windshield wiper motion and find that gives a much more naturall look.

eta: If you can find a real techniques expert face brush or the stippling brush that will help you. Also I use a faux beauty blender by sonjia kashuk from target. It is $10. You need to wet it first so that it is damp.

Thank you for sharing that link! That is a great website--I had not heard of it before. Loved her Victoria's Secret makeover too.

Still tying to figure out my face shape though. . . Chat Icon

I stared getting into this since I discovered Pinterest a couple of years ago. I can't believe it makes such a difference.

The easiest method to figuring out face shape is this:
tie your hair back and take a photo looking directly at the camera. Print it out. Using tracing paper, place it over the photo and trace the outline of your face omitting the ears. Then examine that over the examples I posted above.
