Eating before hungry?

When I wake up, I'm not hungry until hours later. When I do try to eat in morning, I feel sick. Will this go away after time, if I start eating breakfast?

I usually don't eat until im hungry, and by then I'm starving and over eat. I'd like to change this.

So do you eat before your hungry? At first sign of hunger?

Re: Eating before hungry?

During the week I do, but that's usually more out of habit and not that I am super hungry.

I think it's good to have something light like fruit or nuts to help with your sugar levels.

On the weekend I often will just drink coffee until 1 or 2PM.

(I know, so not a good habit).

Re: Eating before hungry?

I would definitely try to eat breakfast if you can, even if it's very light -- especially since you feel you are overeating later.

If you really are turned off by food in the morning, maybe break up your breakfast meal into two parts... eat one part close to when you wake up, and save another part of what would be breakfast for mid-morning when you may be able to stomach more food. That way you are not starving at lunch.

So if you wanted to eat something like fruit and yogurt for breakfast, maybe try to have a banana first thing and eat yogurt later in the morning. Or have a piece of plain toast first thing and then a hard boiled egg later. Breakfast doesn't need to be traditional breakfast foods, either, but I would just definitely try to incorporate some form of protein.

I've also heard people say they can't stomach food in the morning, but they can handle drinking, so maybe a smoothie that could incorporate some filling ingredients (yogurt or oatmeal or chia seeds, plus healthy fruits/veggies) would be a good option.

Also, since I've been managing my weight, I know I do better if I eat before I get too ravenous. I am in better control of portions and eat more mindfully if I am not all that hungry and don't let myself get too hungry.

I think most people make breakfast their lightest meal of the day.
